The album SAMEKH by an award-winning flutist Iwona Glinka is an answer to the question whether one musician can perform polyphonic pieces. The wind instruments are like this case, in a particularly disadvantaged situation because unlike, for example, a violin or a piano you can't perform chords effectively on them, not to mention the implementation of several melodic lines.
Contemporary recording technology combined with an appropriate computer program makes it possible registering subsequent voices and then combining them into a whole piece - this is commonly used in music entertainment. For classical chamber music requirements for this method of registration however, they are much higher because they harmonise with each other voices, their common phrasing, dynamics or articulation requires the player to be very precise developing and playing individual parts. Goes after all, it's about the impression of one team playing. This method execution has its pros and cons. An obvious disadvantage is the lack of the possibility of live presentation, in turn an advantage, to put it somewhat jokingly, a good understanding between musicians forming the quartet.
The albums features 7 quartets (world premiere recordings) by 7 living composers: Sebastian Anthony Birch, Paolo Geminiani, Lars Michael Fetzek, Martin Lennartz, Allen Molineux, Manos Panayiotakis and Greg A Steinke.
